516 Arouca- Suspended bridge
Arouca
Two once-distant banks come together to witness the ingenuity and art of man and nature.
Considered one of the largest suspended pedestrian bridges in the world, the 516 Arouca is 175 metres above the Paiva River and is 1.20 metres wide. It is located in the heart of the Arouca Geopark, a UNESCO site.
The 516 Arouca: Suspension Bridge visit lasts approximately 1.5 hours and is guided. There is also time to get to the bridge entrance. As the access by car is not permitted, you can start your visit in Canelas (Areinho), or, on the opposite side, in Alvarenga. Depending on which access you choose, you can expect to walk for between 20 minutes and 1 hour. You don’t have to walk over the bridge in both directions.
Come challenge the heights and cross one of Europe’s fiercest rivers, the Paiva River.
