Bobbin Lace Museum and School

Vila do Conde

Consecutive and alternating movements lead the bobbins from hand to hand, and, in the blink of an eye, the lace already covers the entire pattern.

The Bilros Lace Museum was set up in 1991 in the former “Casa do Vinhal” manor house to publicise this secular tradition, raising awareness of its importance in the region and safeguarding its continuity.

The collection in this museum comprises various examples of bobbin lace, from older models to more recent ones, as well as the tools and materials used to produce it. One of the standout pieces is undoubtedly the World’s Largest Bobbin Lace, measuring 52 square metres and awarded by Guinness World Records in 2015.

The presence of the lace makers who, with the greatest of skill, perform the art of fine fingering is one of the most appreciated moments in this space, as is the visit to the school where this technique is taught.

Observe the consecutive and alternating movements that lead the bobbins from hand to hand because, in the blink of an eye, the lace will already cover the entire pattern.

Opening hours:

Tuesday to Sunday
Tuesday to Friday: 10 am – 6 pm
