Castro de Alvarelhos

Trofa

One of the most significant archaeological sites in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula.

The Castro de Alvarelhos archaeological site, located at Santa Eufémia Mountain, is classified as a national monument due to the presence of a valuable architectural heritage that dates back to essential periods of historical occupation, from the Bronze Age through Roman rule to the Middle Ages.

Polished ceramics, stone axes, flint blades, domus-type houses, Roman roads and religious ruins are some traces left behind by the ancestral communities that lived here and passed through the ages.

You can walk independently along the interpretive trail and discover all the details of this place’s history. For a more empirical visit, you can be accompanied by a guide by prior arrangement.
