Portugal's main hat production centre.
The Hat Museum, inaugurated in 2005, occupies part of the building of the former Hat Industrial Company, known as “Fábrica Nova”.
From the vast industrial heritage left behind, testimonies, images, machines, tools, and raw materials have been brought together in this space to tell the revolutionary story of the hat industry and the people who worked so hard in it.
The ideia is to provide a multi-sensory experience accompanied by learning and reflecting about the historical context. Still, above all, the human and social context of this activity was responsible for the growth and development of São João da Madeira.
