Port wine is produced in the Douro Demarcated Region under unique conditions. It is one of the greatest icons of Portuguese winemaking.
With its official home in Vila Nova de Gaia, this fortified and sweet flavour calls for a visit to the Caves, the old warehouses where it rests and ages in oak barrels.
More than 20 cellars on the banks of the river honour the region and reveal the past of the companies that have been producing and selling the famous Port wine for centuries. They function as interactive museums and hold unique collections of barrels, advertising posters, official documents, furniture, tiles, etc.
The experience at the home of Port wine, Vila Nova de Gaia continues with raising the glasses and toasting at the flavour of this rare elixir, with the bridge over the river as the ideal backdrop.
