Glass boosted Oliveira de Azeméis' industrial tradition and its economy, becoming a representative element of the local identity.
The process of creating can be long and requires patience and precision on the part of the artisans who work the raw material at high temperatures so that it doesn’t crack. Familiar with the temperament and fragility of the materials, they recognise the perfect moment to shape the different objects to their liking.
With the aim of reviving this historical heritage, in 2007, the “Cradle of Glass” was created, a themed museum exhibiting artefacts linked to the design, production, and marketing of glassware, where it is possible to watch live demonstrations.
Housed in the Casa das Heras in La Salette Park, the “Cradle of Glass” museum emphasises the importance of industrial heritage, allowing the acquisition of unique pieces produced by the hands of local masters who replicate ancient techniques.
